Newport Beach- may 2015

Johns graduation present was a trip to the beach and Disneyland!

We enjoyed a beautiful and sunny day at Newport Beach.   We only had to drive around the block for an hour to find a parking spot on a Sunday afternoon

It was around 75 degrees which is too cold for those of us who live in the desert.   Especially when wet

Johns graduation

I would be lying if I didn't say I have been waiting for this for 5 years!!!

John has worked hard and hasn't even taken a summer off since he started January 2011.
He graduated with a "double major plus" in social science composite- which means he can teach middle school or high school any of the social science subjects- history, geography, economics, finance, psychology, sociology, etc

Bentley was napping at my dads house during the ceremony.

Congrats John!  We are so proud of you! And so excited for you to make money instead of spend it on tuition at the 2nd most expensive school in the state!

Bentleys birthday party

I decided on a monkey theme for bentleys birthday party.  It was cute but a lot more work than I was expecting.

We had hamburgers and salads

This was something I found on Pinterest and of course didn't look nearly as cute as I imagined it would

Due to bentleys food allergies at the time, he could not have dairy or soy.   We made him a "wacky cake", which is a miller family recipe.  That wasn't hard.  But the frosting was a problem.  every homemade recipe had butter in it and every package frosting had soy in it.   Eventually we used marshmallow cream, which was safe and I'm sure pretty good, BUT incredibly messy and sticky.

Bentley enjoyed his party!

Brynlees saint Patrick's day mask from preschool

One of our neighbor girls (Hannah) turned 2 and she had a Sesame Street birthday party.   They are cute and enjoy playing together

Brynlees stitches

March 23, 2015

John had to go down to beaver dam Arizona to see about a temporary substitute position at the high school there.  Since it was just going to take a few minutes I decided to go with and take the kids too.   Big mistake!!

I was trying to keep bentley quiet so brynlee was swinging between the desks in the classroom.   I wasn't paying too much attention to her until I heard her screaming.   I was trying to call her down and couldn't figure out what was wrong, but she has a certain scream when something really hurts.  Then I looked down and my hands were covered in blood.
It took a while to get her calmed down and for us to be able to leave, but then on the drive home I was wondering if she might need stitches- not because it was deep but because it was wide.   John and I debated for a while, but I finally decided to take her in to doctor just in case.   The doctor took one look and said yes it definetely needed stitches.

So she got 4 stitches.  The doctor and medical assistant said over and over again how good she was being.   She didn't cry at all.   It was nice that they put a numbing cream on instead of a numbing shot.

This was a week later going back to get them out.   I had thought about taking them out myself because I know how, but I was nervous that Brynlee would freak out and not let me do it.   So again I decided to take her back to the office and I am glad I did.   The doctor had a very difficult time getting them out because the skin had grown around them already.
