A Baby story

Here's the whole story..... some of this is probably more than you want to know... consider yourself warned :) You could just look at the pictures....

March 11: Had severe back pain and difficulty breathing. Finally went to the doctor after a week and they diagnose a urinary tract infection. I was given antibiotics and I left. On my way home I thought "Is this antibiotic safe IF I were pregnant"? I thought I had just had a period 10 days before, but something just made me call back and ask. The nurse said they would add a pregnancy test to the urine sample they already had, and told me to call back in 30 minutes. She called back about 2 minutes later and said, "Congratulations, you're pregnant"! It took a while to sink in, but I called John right away and told him. Since we had just gone through the miscarriage, I was nervous to tell anyone. I started taking the progesterone pills that day to prevent another miscarriage. John's birthday was the next day, then I went to Las Vegas with my friends for the weekend. They had a feeling I was pregnant because I was eating all the time and needed a nap every day.
A week or 2 later, I was talking to a friend and telling her that it was weird they could detect the pregnancy 10 days after a period with only a urine test. She said, no, that's not weird, it's pretty much impossible, you must be farther along than you think. So I called my doctors office and scheduled an ultrasound for March 31. Sure enough, with the ultrasound, I was 6-7 weeks along instead of 2. So the bleeding was implantation bleeding and my last period was the day I miscarried.

This was the picture from our first ultrasound at 6-7 weeks. It looks like a worm to me, but whatever.

This was the second ultrasound on April 28, because at my doctor's appointment at 10.5 weeks no heartbeat could be heard through the doppler. It turns out my uterus is tipped back. It was fun to see the baby again and see it jumping (literally jumping) around in there and having fun.
I didn't understand this picture until I saw it upside down. We had about 8 pictures and most looked like nothing, but then I finally realized this is the whole body with the head down at the bottom right and you can see the arms by the head and 1 leg (plus something blurry hanging off the bum). This ultrasound got a glimpse of what might be boy parts, but the tech said it was too soon to tell (just before 12 weeks). However, John insists it is a boy. We I first saw these pictures I cried because we had the appointment the week before and couldn't hear a heartbeat. Imagine having to wait a whole week without knowing that your baby is still alive.

This is a cute profile picture.

Alien head picture.

Me around 7 weeks. Yes, I definitely see a baby bump there. I finally realized one day that progesterone is an appetite stimulant, so no wonder I was eating every 2 hours and was showing early. I also had absolutely no energy, so barely moved. It's also no wonder I gained 10 pounds.

Around 10 weeks, looking just a little bigger

11 weeks looks about the same.

15.5 weeks- pretty big difference although I still have people say I don't look pregnant at all. It just depends what I'm wearing, but I also know my body better and know that I am definetely looking pregnant.
Would you believe I love looking pregnant though? First, I have obviously gained weight, so I enjoy looking like I've gained baby weight instead of just the "chubby, you need to eat less and get off the couch more" look. Second, there were days when I honestly thought I would never get to have children. Most of my friends got married years before I did. Plus, a few months before we got married I had my gallbladder out and the general surgeon found endometriosis all over my abdomen and told me it would be very hard to get pregnant. I had to have surgery to clean it out, otherwise I probably still wouldn't be pregnant. Third, after a miscarriage, you come to realize just how much you wanted it and can't have it. I honestly have never cried so much as I did on February 7th (the day the miscarriage was confirmed). Fourth, I have so many friends and acquiantances that have infertility problems that I consider us very very lucky. I truly am so grateful for the opportunity to be what I was meant to be- a mom.
I am also grateful that this pregnancy hasn't been too bad. I started feeling a little quesy at times starting at week 7. Unpleasant sounds and smells were not good. I also was just flat out exhausted. I needed a nap almost every day and was constantly tired. Around week 13 the energy started to come back, and the quesiness is way less, but still there occasionally. Brushing my teeth (and tongue) is the worst. I gag and heave every single time. My back hurts often and the uterus is constantly on my bladder so I feel like I spend the whole day in the bathroom, but really, I can't complain. Lately, I've been a lot more short with people and get irritated at the slightest things, but I keep telling myself that's the hormones and I'm not going crazy.
We will hopefully find out the gender of the baby on June 16th! We are so excited and can't wait for November to arrive!

  1. So when I was preggo with Ry (we didn't know I was preggo until I was 3.5 months along, talk about not paying attention haha!) I was super ornery with everyone! Especially with Evan. So now, every time I get cross he says "Are you pregnant?" haha, what a nerd. But Congrats!! And I'm glad you're feeling good, it's so exciting and don't worry, you'll get control of the hormones/emotions eventually, it takes awhile to figure out. :) YAY!!! Enjoy.
