Roadtrip 2011

May 2011
We drove to Ohio to see the Ohio Winslow's
We stayed a few days in Canton, then drove back (the long way)

Catharge Jail
Carthage, Illinois
This is where Joseph and his brother Hyrum Smith were sent.
A mob broke into the jail and and killed them June 1844

These dark rooms with the bars is where Joseph and Hyrum were kept most of the time

Joseph Smith was in this room when the mob broke into the jail. He was shot, then fell through this window.

Kirtland, Ohio
Many events of the church history occurred here
We took a day trip to Kirtland, which is only about 30 minutes from Canton
Brent & Brooke were generous to watch Brynlee for us

Used for church meetings, church offices, home for Joseph Smith and his family (upstairs)
The School of the Prophets was organized here

This is a very sacred room where a lot of revelation was given to Joseph Smith from God
The Spirit was amazing as we listened to the older missionary tell us the stories

Kirtland Temple
Finished in 1836
The Community of Christ owns this building now after the church members left for Missouri in 1838. The church members left the area because of the mob

Our return trip was supposed to include a visit to the Tetons and Yellowstone, but due to several feet of snow we were unable to go.

After a 2 week trip we were glad to be home in our own beds
