Summer 2012

We really didn't do much this summer.  John took 2 summer classes and I worked for the first half of June, but that's it.  Our biggest stress was how to entertain Brynlee all day every day.  It would have been nice to go more places and see more things with all our time off, but because of the weird pay schedule my work has, I don't get paid in the summer (that will change next year).  So we save all year to be able to pay our bills in the summer and that leaves no room for play.  But we grew closer as a couple and as a family because of all the time we spent together.  I got a lot of projects done and we watched a lot of Netflix after Brynlee went to bed.

Went to nursery and came home with what looks like a bite mark on Brynlee's face.  I am told it's just a scratch (close up it does look more like several fingers made the marks).

Brynlee reading her books to her animals.  The pile of books on the floor are the books she already "read".

We spent a fun weekend at the Panguitch Lake Cabin in July with Michael, Hayley and their kids, and my mom.  Had a great time.  This was the first time I pulled out the camera.  John and Michael were shore fishing and Michael caught a big fish.

Brynlee loved walking around in the sand.  Me, Brynlee, Brayden, & Anna went looking for all the dead fish along the shore.  It was gross but fun at the same time.  There were a lot of fish bodies (all had their eyes missing) and Brynlee would say "ew" (in a very dramatic voice) every time.

John had an obsession with salsa this summer.  He would make a homemade batch as soon as the old one was gone.  It's a good thing his parents grow tomatoes and onions (and generously give us all we want) or we would be broke.  Only the Costco sized bag of tortilla chips would do.  I was shocked that Brynlee loved it too.  This picture is her dipping her chip in the salsa bowl.

It has become tradition to have a sleepover/campout in August for my Dad's birthday.  It's usually a week or so before his birthday and he does all the cooking and planning, so doesn't sound like much of a birthday party, but I'm pretty sure he enjoys it (or else we wouldn't keep doing it).
This year we set up our tents in the Cedar City house's backyard (the house we all grew up in, but Matthew is/was the only one living there).

All the kids enjoyed running around in the huge backyard, playing in the blankets, hiding in the tent, and jumping on the air mattresses.

Sitting around the campfire, enjoying the beautiful summer evening temperatures (something we don't get to enjoy in the St. George heat)

We set up our tent with an air mattress and sleeping bag for Brynlee, but also a portable crib in the house just in case.  I was hoping she would go to sleep with us, but she would not hold still for 1 second.  She would walk around the tent, sit on our heads, fall off the air mattress, etc. etc. etc. Finally after an hour or so (and way past her bedtime) I took her inside and we slept in the house.  Maybe next year she will sleep in a tent.

3 year anniversary- August 1st, 2012

For our 3 year anniversary we decided to go to Mesquite, where else?  We often go there because it's close but is in another state so feels far away and we can have fun doing nothing and eating good food for pretty cheap.  This time we stayed 2 nights because we had a coupon and I batted my pretty eyelashes to get us upgraded to a room with a hot tub in it.  Staying 2 nights was absolutely awesome.  It allowed us to actually relax instead of get there, go to sleep, wake up and come home.  Since Mesquite is only about 1 hour from Vegas, we spent half of our second day there.  We went to the Philllipine market (that's where we got the coconuts in picture above) for John, Trader Joes for me, and had lunch at Einstein Bagels.  Then back to Mesquite for more swimming, watching movies, and the Olympics, and sleeping.  We had a great time, but didn't take any pictures there.  So thankful to have John's parents and sister and my mom to watch Brynlee for the 2 nights we were gone.

Here are some family pictures 3 years after we said "I do" (You don't actually say that in the temple, but whatever)

Cute video of Brynlee
