Our Love Story

I moved to the house in Washington in August 2008. I started going to the singles ward. I didn't really like the ward and often thought about going to a different ward, but always thought to myself it will get better, just keep going. So I did. In February, 2009, I walked into Sunday School and some guy started talking to me. He asked if I was new to the ward because he hadn't seen me before. I said no, I had been going to the ward for 7 months. He felt bad, but I worked a lot of Sundays so didn't know many people. He talked about going to Europe in a few weeks and said he needed to get in shape before he left. I told him I could help with that, so he asked for my phone number. I gave it to him and hoped he would call soon. The next week or so I heard he was moving. I was sad, but not really sure why because I had just met him. There was a family home evening barbeque scheduled soon, so I planned to go after work. I rarely went to ward activities. On that Monday, I was tired, it was raining, and I could not find where the activity was at. I finally found them and saw John showing off by catching marshmallows in his mouth. It was pretty funny, and we talked for a while that night. As we were leaving, I told John he hadn't called me yet. He told me he was sorry but that he would soon. He did call me and invited me to go to Zion with him and his work friends. I wasn't too sure if I wanted to go because I wanted to go snowboarding that day and wasn't too fond of group activities when I didn't know anyone. But I decided to go and so John came over around 1 PM on February 28, 2009. We went hiking at Zion, then to dinner at a chinese buffet, then we watched a movie at his friends house. We were laying on a love sac and he held my hand under the blanket. I was soo happy! The date lasted until midnight. John said he wasn't going to be at church the next day, but he did come and I was happy to see him there. that night we went for a walk (about 2 hours long). On Monday, he came over to the house and as we were sitting on the couch he kissed me! We saw each other every day until he left for Germany on Thursday! I had surgery on Friday and he called me everyday until I left for China the next Thursday. I bought expensive calling cards and called his phone and left messages a few times. On one of our last days in China (Shanghai), we were waiting in the lobby after breakfast. I only had a few minutes but I decided to call him again. This time he answered because he had just landed at the airport in San Francisco. We talked for a few minutes. The whole time I was in China I could not stop thinking about him and he felt the same way in Germany! I got back to St. George at 3 AM on Sunday, March 22. He came over to see me and I met his family that night. We said the "I love you's" on April 6, engaged May 9, and married August 1, 2009. We feel like we have known each other forever and can't wait to spend the rest of our lives together!
