Our life these days

Since most of my posts are about Brynlee (she is the center of our lives, so go figure), I thought maybe I should do something else. Here is what we have been up to:
John: Started at Dixie College in January. He has had extremely bad luck in the past with college, so I think we were all a little nervous (or was it just me) that this wouldn't work out again. Especially after he quit his job. The semester is pretty much over- he just has a few finals to take. John took geology, history, art, math, and 2 institute classes. It was very interesting for a while with his art teacher speaking very little english (why is he a college professor??? That's what we would like to know). John has done very well and will be getting mostly A's this semester. The days he is not in class John is the stay at home dad. He loves making Brynlee laugh. John will also be taking 2 classes this summmer and a full load in the fall also. He hopes to be able to finish his degree in 3 years or so. We don't really know what the final plan is, so hopefully we will get it figured out. John wants to be a seminary teacher, but it is very competitive and a lot of people don't get chosen. And according to some sources if you aren't chosen to be a teacher your first time applying, you will never be chosen. The good news is you just need a Bachelor's degree in anything, so the backup plan is to teach history and get a degree in history. Dixie college does not offer a degree in history currently, so he may have to transfer to SUU when done with generals. But supposedly the new degree is in the process of happening at Dixie so that would be nice.
Krista:
I started the semester in January with 3 jobs. 2 out of the 3 were not by choice, but by necessity. You see, Mohave Community College is a very small school and since my campus is hundreds of miles away from all the other campuses (4 total), we pretty much get ignored and are treated like the ugly stepchild. Plus with the location of the campus it doesn't make things any easier. The school is in a very small town on the border of Arizona and Utah where pretty much only polygamists live. The school has nothing to do with polygamy even though a lot of people that work there are from the polygamist community and we get quite a few students also. So because of the stigma and the location (45 minute drive from St. George), it is hard to hire new people. So I was working 50 hours and sometimes 6 days a week at the beginning. It has slowed down some but basically my life is crazy busy. I have 2 weeks of work left for this semester, then the summer semester will be June and July, then I will start again in August. I have so much on my mind all the time that I often can't sleep even though I am exhausted. Picture a hampster on a wheel and that's what my brain looks like 24/7. Hopefully these next 2 weeks will allow me to get caught up on school stuff.
Since I have now taught for almost 2 years, I should be getting the hang of it right? It's not so much teaching that I have a hard time with as the prep time for each lecture and all of the paperwork and processes and protocols and changes that I have to keep up with. It would take me all week to prepare my 4 hour lecture. Then I spend 1-2 days a week at the hospital "babysitting" my students and make sure they don't kill anyone. I think what I most look forward to during the summer is not having to get up at 4 or 5 AM on Fridays and Saturdays.
Somedays (okay all the time) I wish I had a personal assistant. Someone that would plan meals, grocery shop, clean the house, do laundry, get gas in the car, put pictures on blog, etc. It's very hard doing all of that on top of working all day, then add taking care of a very demanding baby on top of that. I know my life is not harder than any other moms, but it still is hard.
I am looking forward to making an exercise plan, losing baby weight, and being able to relax for more than 5 minutes at a time.
We had a rather large tax return this year, so we have used it wisely. We recently put cement in our backyard and John's dad will build a gazebo to provide shade. We spent a lot of money and time on organizing the garage, got a new BBQ grill, joined the rec center, had family pictures taken, and some necessary baby items like stair gates.
We are looking forward to our trip to Ohio next month. We are driving (crazy I know) and will be seeing and doing a lot on the way there and back.
I never had time to do a 5 month post on Brynlee, so I guess 5 & 6 month together will have to do. But here is a quick rundown of her: Brynlee is a roll-over maniac (hence the baby gates) who loves to laugh and make us laugh, thinks there is too much to do and no need to sleep, and does not want to eat anything other than her bottle. She turns 6 months next week (May 4th).
Stay tuned for adorable baby and family pictures
