24th of July

We started the holiday by going to the Washington city parade.  We all expected it to be hot (and it was), but the parade was horrible.  There were several minutes of waiting between each car/float and we were at the end so it seemed to take forever to start anyway.  The people who actually threw candy would throw 1 piece of candy to a large group of kids.  Not that I want my kid to have more candy, but the kids were not excited at all.  It dragged on.  After over an hour we left and the parade was not over yet.  Pretty much everyone around us left before we did.  It has never been like that before and hopefully enough people complained that it won't happen again.

After the parade we packed up and made our way to Pine Valley.  We were glad to get out of the heat and relax a little.  We just sat around and talked for a while before eating hamburgers for dinner.  I tried to get Brynlee to take a nap on the way to Pine Valley, but she didn't fall asleep until the last 10 minutes or so.  It wasn't enough of a nap so we pretended there were no fireworks that night and went to bed at our usual times.  It's kind of sad to miss the fireworks, but it is not worth it to have a kid who is tired and ornery the next day.
