Bentley turned 4 months on August 3rd. Time sure flies! He is such a joy to have around! He makes everyone smile because he is such a happy and cute baby.
We took Bentley swimming for the first time. We went in the early evening and it was a little windy. We took him in the regular pool first and he was shivering within 10 seconds, so we tried the hot tub. It was not hot at all, more like bathtub water. Bentley loooooved it. He just layed there like a dead fish.
He is getting pretty good at rolling from his back to his stomach. He usually starts to scream pretty quick after he gets to the his belly though.
We waited until his 4 month check up to start solids. He has seemed interested in food for a long time- he watches us eat and opens his mouth too as if he wants to join in. I was very excited, but he wasn't a big fan of the rice cereal. Neither was Brynlee so of course I am nervous that he will become a horrible eater like Brynlee. After a few attempts I mixed in some pureed pears and he seems to like that a little better. He just needs to work on not spitting the food out.
One day Bentley just cuddled up to his Aunt Sue forever. He sure loves her and she sure loves him.
One of the rare times on his belly and not screaming bloody murder!
Bentley is kind of funny with the pacifier- most of the time he doesn't like it, but one day I forgot to bring baby toys in the church bag and that was the only thing I could find for him to hold. He just played with it forever, putting it in his mouth and taking it out. I was really shocked that he could pick it up off the floor and put it in his mouth correctly. Then he starts gagging on it, which is really weird.
Sleeping on dad
One night we had some watermelon so I gave him a piece to suck on. He loved it of course, but I didn't want him eating pieces of it yet, so put it in this cool mesh thing. He sucked the juice out of it for several minutes. He was so sticky he went straight to the bath after that.
Bentley is always so funny to watch in the bath. He just gets so calm and smiley. It is one of my favorite things.
Height at 4 months: 25.5 inches (66th percentile)
Weight at 4 months: 15 pounds (44th percentile)
Head circumference: 16.8 inches (52nd percentile)
His acid reflux continues to be a problem and I don't see an end in sight. He still requires essential oils twice a day and gripe water with every bottle. With both of those things he spits up only a few times a day usually. Some days though he has 4 different outfits. He usually saves it all for me and I constantly have spit up on my shoulders. What's funny is he often spits up everywhere but the burp cloth or bib. One day John had him for several hours and he never spit up, but within 10 seconds of me picking him up he lets loose on me.
He has now been diagnosed with eczema. He gets patches of very dry skin all over his body, mostly in folds such as his wrist and ankles. There isn't much to do about it besides keep it moist.
We switched to formula at the end of July. Pumping was too much for me. I was so chronically sleep deprived it was difficult to function. I was having a hard time being patient with Brynlee and knew that wasn't fair to her. I already knew Bentley was okay with formula. The nice thing is I started freezing bags of breastmilk in April, so Bentley still gets about 1/2 of his bottles as breastmilk per day.
At Bentley's 4 month appointment Dr. Gessell (who I love) just went on and on about how cute he is and how much fun he is. She said she would never get anything done if he was her kid. I feel the same way. What's funny is he wasn't even being his usual cute self- he gets pretty quiet around strangers. Bentley also loved the rotavirus oral vaccine they gave him. The medical assistant commented that she had never seen a baby take it so well. Then the real shots- he cried for about 10 seconds and was done. Unfortunately he had a rough couple of days after that of low fever, not feeling well, and just being a little grumpy.
I don't know what happened, but Bentley wakes up every single night now. It used to be just a few times a week. He almost always drinks 4 ounces and goes back to sleep, but it takes him 30 minutes to drink it. I really don't know what to do so he won't wake up every night. But the best part is he is always excited to see me in the night and he gets so excited. Makes it not so bad.
We sure love this boy!
