Pregnancy update- October 2013

Picture taken October 24, 2013.  15 weeks and 5 days.

Nausea started at about 8 weeks and very quickly got worse until week 13 or so.  I got some zofran which helped a lot with the nausea, but caused other GI problems that eventually made it so I could not take it anymore.  I never threw up when pregnant with Brynlee, but did a few times this pregnancy.  What's weird is that I'm typing this at almost 20 weeks and the nausea has come back some.  I could not handle changing Brynlee's dirty diaper the other day and was also dry heaving in the public restroom because of the "restroom" smell.

I still seem hungry all the time and eat quite often during the day.  But the progesterone I took the first trimester was a different form (not oral) than last pregnancy, so I think that helped a lot.

Cravings: water (just ice cold plain water), carbohydrates

Strong dislikes: meat- especially pork, chicken, and ground beef-  I could eat steak.  Vegetables.

I tried so hard to eat healthy, but craving carbs and disliking vegetables didn't make that easy.  I was glad that I liked water.  When I was pregnant with Brynlee I couldn't stand the thought of plain water- it had to have flavoring or sugar or something.  I could not get enough plain water during the day this time.

Weight gain: at 16 weeks I had gained 6 pounds (which thankfully is in the healthy range).  I wasn't able to fit into my usual pants around 10 weeks, but later realized it was because of my digestive issues at the time.  After those resolved I was still able to fit into my usual jeans until around 16 weeks.  Even though the sickness is not fun, it definetely helps to keep the weight gain down to a normal level.

As is normal during pregnancy, I am tired all the time.  But what is weird is if I have a lot on my mind and am kind of stressing about something, I wake up super early in the morning and can't go back to sleep the rest of the night.  Super early as in 2 or 3 AM!!!  That makes for a really long day.  What is weird is that I don't feel super stressed during the day, but it somehow is different in the middle of the night.

I also had crazy dreams too.  Dreams that would stress me out in my sleep and then wake up and be stressed too.  So glad those are over!

First time I felt the baby move:  around 15 weeks.  I did wonder if I was feeling something else, but know that's what it was.  I love feeling the baby move.  He is most active at night when I lay down in bed to watch a movie or read.  John was able to feel him move around 18 weeks.

Gender reveal:  We were both hoping for a boy, but would have been totally happy with a girl too.  I have never had specific feelings as to the gender of the baby, but since so much was different with this pregnancy versus Brynlee's it made me think it might be a boy.
My doctors office does an ultrasound at 16 weeks to determine gender.  I was actually only 15 weeks and 5 days when I had the ultrasound.  We were thrilled to find out it was a boy!  As soon as we left the appointment we went shopping and bought a cute blue blanket.  I wanted to buy an outfit, but I just couldn't get excited about boy clothes (not very cute compared to girl clothes).  A few days later John bought a Lincoln Logs set and a stuffed Mario figure.  John was sooo excited to buy some boy toys and not have everything covered in pink sparkles.

We planned to wait until Brynlee's birthday party (about 10 days away) to tell our family and friends the gender.  But that only lasted an hour or so before we caved and told everyone.

Names we thought of: Chandler & Drake for John.  Carter & Easton for me.  We eventually decided on a different name that we are both happy with.
